Olaf is declared victor over all! All other warlords are ordered to pay homage and reparations to Olaf and warbands return home.
The camapaign has ended prematurely, part way through campaign turn 5 due to general apathy of the players and their inability to organise games in a timely manner, which is unfortunate, but at this point there is no chance that any of the other players can overtake the lead held by the Viking player - so victory to goes to Adam - our youngest player (14yrs) - very well done. He rightly concentrated his efforts in the early stages to increasing his power score in order to reach 15 points and thus gain a free victory point for each game thereafter regardless of the result. Erik the Dane dared to raid Hagar and he paid the price, with his life!
Hagar himself plunged his blade into the chest of the Great Dane and bled him where he stood. Erik is dead! long live Erik's son.. Erikson the Bastard! Viking raiders burn fields and villages along the southern coast! Sherrard is powerless to prevent the sacking of three villages in Wessex, and as if that wasn't tidings enough, the Normans have invaded and taken the land around Hastings! They can use this as a springboard for the invasion of Britain!
While the Vikings are severley depleated in numbers, it seems that their lead is now unassailable, and it will the scraps that the other warlords now fight over. A close shave for the Danes, but in the end the Viking were sent packing. It was a tough fight and the Vikings left many more dead than they left themselves. But victory for Olaf was an uphill struggle with his ever dwindling warband.
As a reward for their hard-fought battle, Olaf promotes one of his warrior unit to Hearthguard and equips them accordingly. However much longer can the Vikings continue with an ever decreasing warband? Erik speaks... 'These Vikings will pay in time for their boldness, but for now I have more pressing matters on my border to deal with. That Saxon Scum Sherrard has run home to his mother breast - but he will recieve no succor and I will give no quarter. I will have Sherrad's head on spike before this campaign is at an end!' The bards will sing of this day, this battle, this carnage! As the Scots, already weakened by war and pestilence sail to the Viking homelands in search of wealth and glory, they are met with what seems at first to be an equally weak foe, and for sure it seems their leader is not fully in possession of his wits as he makes clumsy and foolhardy thrust with his Hearthguard and they are dismissed. But mistakes were to be made by both Warlords this day and the payback is harsh. Both warbands are reduced to nought as quickly as dried leaves are blackened by fire. In the end it is the steely gaze of Warlord to Warlord. Both thrust but only one falls. It is Victory for Olaf, but the cost is great.
At last a victory for Hagar! Inspiring his warriors with a heroic single-handed attack on Sherrard's peasant scum and dispatching Sherrard and almost his entire contingent while suffering not a scratch to his own and snatching Sherrard's wealth from under his very nose!
Hagar spoke... 'Let this victory inspire us to greater deeds! Let this story be told and let this lesson be learned by all! Perhaps Sherrard's early success has gone to his head but with his raiding party stabbing at Paddy's side has he stirred a hornet's nest? has he done what cannot be undone?
Paddy spoke... 'So now 'tis me own crock ye seek is it? This betrayal will n' go unpunished! to be sure! Prepare for y' final days me lad, say y' farewells and don't be at home when the Irishman comes-a-knockin'!' Having defeated the Irish decisively, Fraser Spoke...
'Aye a fine win men, oot smartin’ tha’ Irish went tae plan an’ well it went. A few bruises fae they tatty chuckin’ halfwits wis’ nothin’ tae stop us holding oor ayne’ way’ the Saxon poofs, aye more than a few good men lost tae the battle, but stand firm we did. Lets get intae these Anglo Dane bastards again!' Fraser went on to battle the Anglo-Danes once again, however things weren’t to the King of North’s usual ways and the event unfolded in defeat for the Scots. A reflective time for the ambitious King? Fraser spoke once more... 'My Brothers, the defeat I hold heavy against ma heart. At furst’ it seemed a sure ‘hing wae the Anglo Danes, but bad tactics, tactics which I put forth, that’s wit caused oor short an’ sour loss of many. Even I wis’ wounded badly. Fear is a myth tae us an’ it shall remain that way forever more like it was our faethers’ before us. Look forward tae the glory of battle an’ the achievements it brings in the new lands we seek to make compliant tae oor ways. Ways of proud community an’ a warriors way at the heart of every soul born a Scot! TONGS YA BAS’ |
